I gave a 4-hour today. The first tour I've given since late October. Many times, when not having given a tour for months, you can stumble along. I kept saying to myself, "If you just start it, you'll remember what you need to say... for FOUR HOURS." Instead, I had no problem whatsoever. Yes, this is apparently written into my genes. Maybe I'm a ghola. Dune-techno babble>

Afterwards, feeling wacked as I usually am after these, I went to the big city and bought a new glass cutter head. I tried 2 times to cut a piece of brown glass on Sunday, which broke wrong each time. "Don't get mad at the glass," is my 1 self-taught rule,* so I had to put the project on hold so that I could get a new cutter head (damn, those things are expensive: $25!) It turns out that I wasn't getting enough oil to the carbide wheel [that's what cuts the glass. The oil helps tremendously and also prolongs the life of the cutting wheel]. I got back home, and cut those suckers no problem. Now I'm foiling, so in a few days, Saturday hopefully by the latest, I should have a lampshade for the upstairs. Now we just have to figure out how to attach the damned thing. I also read on how to frame stained glass in wood. That is a good thing. It means that I can finally design something to put in front of our light over our sink. Mda has the idea of glass in wood, simple design. Right now, we just have a newspaper turned on its side and stapled to some of the roof beams. I forget it's there most of the time.

*: Actually, let me correct that. It's one of my self-taught rules. The other one is, "Don't solder while drunk."

ROFL

Someday, I should tell you some of the rules that came into being while I was working for an antique restoration business in college.

Man, I think that's the first ROFL I've ever elicited! Yes, I'd like to hear those rules.

Well, we could start with never use the heat gun on something that is sitting in your lap....

I would like to point out that I am not the one who did this, by the way. But I did laugh hysterically when it happened. (that may sound kind of mean, but well.... Ok, it WAS mean to laugh, but it was my self-important ex-husband who set himself of fire, and we did get it put out by dousing him with coffee and beer before he got burned.)

Laughing inappropriately is one of my most consistent traits :>

Mmmm. Vodka.

I saw an article in Architect Digest today. That mentioned Taliesin West in Scottsdale AZ. Same place as you? I wasn't sure, but kept looking for hidden likethebeers to prove my powers of observation. It was like a linguistic where's waldo.

I need another mudslide.

Ooh--mudslide.

Yep, we are the other Taliesin (sort of like the other white meat, but not as edible). We're the one in Spring Green, Wisconsin. We were the focus of an article in the April Architectural Digest, though.

Where? That's the issue I've got. What page?

It's entitled, "Taliesin Reconsidered," p. 290-297.

Hmm. I'll have to look that up when I get home.

Um... it wasn't the April Architectural Digest. It was the May A.D. At least we both know we're not crazy.

I don't know. I've been harbouring a special weakness for a well-made tequila sunrise lately.

That's a nice girlie-drink too. Last time I had one of those, the drink slipped from my fingers and fell on the shoes of the woman I was trying to chat up. Oh dear!

Nice icon. Do you have a holder for that banana?

Mmm. That is clearly a violation of some law, somewhere. I must have one.

you crack me up...my grandpa used to do a lot of stained glass work, and so I just got this vision of him stumbling around drunk with his soldering tool, and really, you had to be in my head to really get it, but jeez, it was funny. Thanks.

For the record, I've never soldered drunk. I soldered once, I think, w/2 beers in me, or at least I started to. Then I fully thought about what I was doing and flinging around a piece of 500-800 degree metal while intoxicated suddenly seemed like a bad idea.

"Don't get mad at the glass," though, that did come from experience.
