For some reason, one of the things I remember is pulling out of my drive going to work. At almost exactly 7:46 (8:46 Eastern Time - the time at which the first plane hit the WTC).

One of the reasons why I remember this is that it drove me crazy for almost a year - had I pulled out, turned the radio on & heard about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center, and didn't register it because I didn't understand, or care, about what was going on? It took me almost a year to remember, with relief, that my radio hadn't been working & that's why it wasn't on that day.

When I pulled out of the driveway, the first plane had hit the tower. The morning show DJ's did not yet know the significance, or the full details. Shortly after I got to work, we hard the news that a second plane had hit, and it shortly became obvious what had happened.

When I was told that the first plane hit by a co-worker who had just come in (we didn't know about the 2nd one, or it hadn't happened yet), I said, "What - a Cessna?" And he told me how large it was. I said, "I don't understand - how could they *steal* an airplane?" "Well, it would be a lot easier to just hijack one with people in it, wouldn't it?" "... oh."
