Footage from Mission Control at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the night of August 5 as the Mars Rover, Curiosity, successfully landed on Mars; interspersed with the animation that JPL had done of all the steps in the process, from hitting the atmosphere to landing on the surface of the planet, that made it work: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/24590920

I haven't watched the Daily Show treatment, but the JPL + animation piece is incredible. When I watched it, I was thinking "fake" until i realized you said "animation". D'Oh!

The first time I saw that animation was when John had done a presentation on it back in March (I think?) at the local library. It looked crazy; and still sounds crazy. But, dammit, it worked!
