Old Time radio

An old woman and her niece are living in a house out in the country. Psychotic, Danny, has come to work for the old lady.... The niece has some idea that he's crazy & a murderer, but she's just hidden the evidence that he killed someone else. I can't figure that out at all.Dragnet: "The Big Actor" 08/10/50
Although, I'm glad to have heard, "There's been a muuurrder" just like my friend and I used to say to each other when we were reading Agatha Christie books.
... huh - well the niece let him get away with the head in the bed, just because she wanted to figure out if he was the murderer. I don't think she's made a good decision in that case.
Well, maybe she did: this guy killed her aunt (who she wasn't crazy about), then the guy was caught before killing her.
It's about a huge amount of narcotics stolen from a Catholic hospital. I have to say, I forgot that cocaine could be in the cache in a hospital.Whisperer: "The Fight Game" 08/12/50
Ah, yes: The Whisperer... whose secret weapon is that he... whispers.
Well, he's got some fancy explosive device in his cigarette pack that will explode, which we find out when he asks his girl to grab his pack and light a cigarette for him (which is right after he tells his girl, "No, of course I don't have some crazy explosive device."). That's not him being playful - I'm afraid that's him just being stupid. And setting up a plot device which I am sure will come in handy later.
... I like how The Whisperer calls someone from a pharmacy and you don't hear anyone buying stuff (like cigarettes) in the background.
OH! I can see that the plan with the cigarette pack was all part of his plan: he used his girl's freaking out later for the chance he needed to get the upper hand. Good to know he knows how she'll freak out enough to use her. True love.

Thanks
Date: 2012-08-13 03:12 pm (UTC)There are times when listening to it that I totally get how this influenced Stephen King growing up. Not so much the ease of the plots (you can pick out the murder in less than 3 scenes), but in some of the scenarios that King has used in his books. And the immersion of listening to a show at night.

Date: 2012-08-14 03:38 pm (UTC)I usually have Old Time Radio on in the barn while I finish up chores and Kid has taken to laying up in the hay loft and listening in- I've joined her up there a few times and I can definitely see how they were a hotbed of inspiration for many a writer.

Date: 2012-08-14 07:30 pm (UTC)I've been remiss the last few weeks; and I was on vacation so I may have missed the ghost and the little girl. I'll have to wander over to the archive of recent shows that (I just found out) is on the WPR site.
