Northern lights showed up in green & red the other night, although I missed them. I got the notice and ran outside, but they were gone by then. Ah, well. Cool thing about aurora is that they're more rare than, say, double rainbows, so that when you actually see them, it's about the most wicked cool thing of the year; and one of the most wicked cool things you'd ever see in your whole life.
I've missed seeing the really colorful ones, but one time mda & me did watch white aurora that filled over half the sky. It was winter, so we were able to lay out in the fields (which were hard & unused) to watch it until it disappeared.
I really like the fact that I live in a place where, occasionally, you can see the northern lights.

Date: 2011-10-30 04:59 pm (UTC)I've seen them a couple of times, but had the same experience as you - not mind-blowing. The white ones were cool because they were so big and long-lasting, but no color yet.
