Computer guru!
Oct. 16th, 2011 06:06 pmI figured one thing out, anyway.
I've had a problem since I'm writing this from the laptop (as I've not been able to access the internet from the desktop). The "numlock" has been on.
The keyboard on the laptop has the blue function (Fn) key. This was locked in, which is an issue, since there is a number keypad on the keyboard for the laptop: that's in blue. And if you're entering lots of numbers on a laptop, you hit the "numlock" and when you're typing, the blue numbers near the right of the letters on your laptop will be the result of typing, as opposed to the letters there.
So, the letters u, i, o, p become 4 5 6 *
The letters & symbol j k l and ; become 1 2 3 -
And the letter and symbols m . / become 0 . +
Just figuring out that this was what was going on took me a little while.
I could temporarily get the letters & symbols off the keyboard if I hit the blue "Fn" key at the same time.
Not a lot of fun. SO, I went looking of an answer, and was told that the "Numlock" was on, and that I had to turn it off. I tried going into the registry, but that wasn't doing anything.
After a couple of shutdowns & restarts, I took a look again at the blue writing on some of the keys and decided, d'uh, "Pad Lock" was under the F9 key, in blue. So, I hit the "Fn" key, and F9 (Pad Lock) and... success!!
Like I wrote: this is a small thing, but I figured it out, and didn't have to beg someone else, or drive the laptop into a computer store in the city to get the problem solved.
