Oh good. Because I was afraid I would lose that kick-ass Midwest thing of surviving nasty winters, what w/El Nino, La Nina, and global warming. It makes me feel guilty to have 50 degree days in January. You can't possibly lay around on days like that and read a book in your pajamas. You have to go out and do something--anything! But at 15 degrees below zero, my car battery might be dead, then "oops, sorry, not coming into work today..." Speaking of which, I should make the effort to get ready for work.

I was just thinking the same thing last night--here's the reason we're tough Wisconsinites, dealing with this ridiculous cold.

What gets me is that I'm actually able to walk outside and breathe w/out coughing, something I just usually don't do when the temperature gets below 0. Must be the down coat. Thanks, down coat!!!

When I lived in CA I used to complain that my life lacked adversity. That the seasons were so agreeable that there was never any reason to plan ahead, be organized about where all the winter stuff is kept or DIE. No daily challenges. I had been conditioned to manage that sort of stress by growing up in WI and had no place to put those skills. I agree - it's good we are having a REAL winter with snow and everything.

Yeah, my sister E said that J always gets antsy on beautiful days wanting to do stuff. Erin will say, "J, it's California. It's beautiful like 250 days out of the year. You can relax." Then there's Rebecca, who's at college in AZ. She said, "The people out there never go anywhere! There are all these great hiking trails, but b/c it will be beautiful this weekend, the next, the one after that, people just keep putting it off."

There's got to be a place to put those skills. Of course, you could be on permanent awareness for earthquake preparation. They say that you should have all the supplies in your basement, and change the water you're storing every 3-6 months, so that could help. I do wish for more snow, though. Not like the winter of 2000-2001, which of course reminds me of that skate that you and WI-C got into. Only the crusted snowbanks that had been forming since late November helped to stop your car.
