Commenting on mrmustard's journal, I encountered the journal of [livejournal.com profile] syphillus, which has an icon w/Arthur Rimbaud. That reminded me of the "Arthur Rimbaud in New York" series by David Wojnarowicz, and I went off in search of web pages that showed selected artworks from that series in order to provide hyperlinks to them to illustrate what I mean (like I'm doing right now). Along the way, I read some of the articles about Wojnarowicz. For those of you who don't know (which I imagine means practically everyone in the universe, even the small universe that I currently, and most likely, will always, inhabit), I wrote my master's thesis on David Wojnarowicz. I delved into his life and art for a year, after having developed an ever steadying interest in him for about 4 years. I swam in his life, actually. It consumed most of my passion for the second half of that year (the first year, btw, that I worked at Taliesin). In many ways, I think the thesis was brilliant, with a title that is so wonderfully "master's thesis" all the way.

Give me a moment to remember what the damned title is.... The Incrutable Imagination and the Politics of Visibility in the Art of David Wojnarowicz. At least my acknowledgements didn't go on for 2 pages like a friend of mine, who also began signing everything, D*** Mc****, M.A.

Unfortunately, I've never found the right venue either for my thesis, or for any of the sections within it. And sometimes I long to dive back into Wojnarowicz's life, not just as a fan but as a commentator. He's only been dead for 11 years, as opposed to FLLW, who was dead before I was born. He had a passion that's devastating most of the time, and he created compositions so different from FLLW. FLLW was always striving for a universal beauty; Wojnarowicz's work brims w/a controlled chaos in, at times, neon colors (although, to be truthful, I do enjoy his photographic work the most). Anyway, I was thinking all of this and it occurred to me that the other reason I missed Woj was that I was starting to get somewhere w/this Taliesin thing and so of course, rather than pursue it, I'd leap off in another direction and never achieve anything on either side.

Happy New Year.
