Eeep! (money)
Jan. 2nd, 2009 06:04 pmOur dryer died over x-mas vacation. The washer & dryer were middle-aged when we moved in here 7 years ago; and mda fixed the dryer about 3 times, and the washer at least twice (at least - the first time he fixed the washer was right after we moved in). But he couldn't do anything for the dryer this time around and officially declared it dead.
So we decided that, yup, time to suck it up and buy a new dryer & washer (since the washer is the same year is the dryer & has already died a few times, we thought it was best to buy both). I paid for them by check; w/the assurance that mda will pay the mortgage this month. The 2 pieces, together, are just over $1,400 w/tax, delivery, and removal of the old system.
YIPES.
So, in the past 4 or 5 months or so we've spent:
I understand that it's about time for our appliances to begin breaking down; and I'm super happy that our chimney liner's in place; and it was totally time for a new roof (on our garage); but I really do not want to spend anything that has more than 2 numerals to the left of the decimal point in the near future.
/currently eyeing the fridge, which will definitely be the next thing to go.

Seriously, in all we're talking... oh, I don't want to write what kind of money we're talking. It's best to just pay and not think about it.a couple thousand on a new chimney liner a couple thousand on a new roof for the garage over $700 for a water heater (which died in November) and now $1,400 for a new washer & dryer. and, as usual, the yearly homeowner's insurance, which was over $1,000

appliance woes
Date: 2009-01-04 11:28 pm (UTC)As I wrote, our appliances were middle-aged when we bought the house, so I tell myself it's just the result of entropy as usual. I still do not want to buy a fridge anytime soon (as COOL as that might be). I think I'll be happy w/a new washer & dryer for the time being :-)
