"We totally have to put our Facebook prank on our Google Calendar."

I feel that way sometimes, too. I find at times that what I say is so particular to the oddities of this electronic culture that it will make absolutely no sense in 20 years.

I thought of that when I did this: I changed my home page on Firefox from Salon to Slate.

Now, in 20 years, that's just going to sound so fricking weird (I seem to be showing my age even to say 20 years, instead of 2).

But, yes (speaking of Salon now, not 21st century vocabulary), I have decided finally, to pull myself out of Salon.com, the online news/opinion magazine I've read every day for 7 years (and have been a subscriber to for, I don't know, 5 years?). Although I've still not found anything as good as Salon was in the early years,* I've begun to read a few other things (Slate being one of them) that are at least as good, or better, than the stuff Salon has now.

And, in true liberal style (where we think that letters matter) I just wrote them an e-mail stating my reasons why I wouldn't be renewing. I didn't even use ALL CAPS, but I did use adjectives such as "passive-aggressive", and "sophomoric" when describing some of their writing.

I'm sure they'll work on everything I mentioned.

Bye, Salon!! You were really great there for awhile!

It's sad to see something you like change. Or we change away from it.

I go to Salon daily, but just to read the comics, and read Cary Tennis' advice column, which makes me laugh.

I agree w/you that the reader's advice is the better part of the replies. His rambling totally gets on my nerves.

Did you hear back from them?

No, I didn't hear back from them. I just got an automatic reply thanking me for my letter.
