Green! Warm! (cold cold cold)
Feb. 18th, 2008 06:33 pmThis is more for me than anyone else....
Warm, summer, people wearing shorts, people wearing light jackets. Things will grow. The green will be so overwhelming that my eyeballs will practically pop out of my sockets. I'll be so hot I can't sleep. Some time, it will happen. I don't know when (I'm telling myself to stop hoping to see the ground, or to see above freezing temperatures, in March), but it will happen. And when it does, it's going to be glorious.
And, you know what? I really don't give a flying fuck that my skin is almost translucent in these photos from Swiss Miss. I have no shame anymore.

Behold! A woman in a dress! A man in shorts and a t-shirt! Green grass!

People are warm! They might even walk outside at night without longjohns!

A WOMAN WEARING A BATHING SUIT AND NOT ABOUT TO FREEZE TO DEATH!

And, today.... Current temperature at 7pm: 6 degrees Fahrenheit. This evening? "Wind chills approaching -20F."
Here's a picture of my car against the snowbanks in our driveway. I can't see over the snowbanks anymore when I'm pulling out onto the road. I have to look both ways before I get to the end, see if anyone's coming, then pull out, and hope that if someone comes up behind me on the right that they're driving slowly.

Then there's a photo of our house, with its bountiful icicles. I pulled some of the snow off the roof yesterday, but still: by the time I got home and opened the door to the house, the icicles were such around the door that a 12" long icicle came down in front of me. We have plans to deal with this part of the house, but can't do it during the winter.

Oh, and by the way: the pine tree to the right is usually mostly straight. The snow and ice have bent it over.
I got this idea that I told mda about: we turn up the heat to like 80 degrees, dress in shorts, put on make-up (both of us) and dance around in barely nothing until we're so exhausted that we collapse (he's sleeping right now, so that'll have to wait--3 hours of shoveling snow tuckered him out).
Update: According to The Cap Times, Madison, WI is 50.5" above normal for snowfall.

Current temperature: 6 degrees F (-14C). Intellicast tells me that, with the wind chill, it feels like -6 (-21C).

Date: 2008-02-19 02:42 am (UTC)Beer has put me in a better mood for a moment. And I await seeing mda in make-up.
Some insanity has to happen soon, for all of us, to get over this nuttiness.

Date: 2008-02-19 02:49 am (UTC)We don't get your cold and snow, obviously, but the weather here has been awful. We really didn't have a Spring and Summer last year. The last few days have brought some spring-like weather.
To illustrate, I put 6000 miles on my motorcycle the 1st year. I've only been able to put 400 miles on the motorcycle this year because of wet, near freezing weather.
Boo hoo!
Clearly you need to take pix of make-up, if only for blackmail reasons.

Your motorcycle mileage us just depressing.
Plus: I'm glad my bitchiness was acceptable!

Date: 2008-02-19 02:40 am (UTC)i keep trying to remind myself of what its like when i climb into a naked bed with little on and still be "too hot to sleep".
Hardly seems like March is right around the corner when this continues to continue. Either snow or minus cold. There's really no inbetween these days.

I'll be better in a day or two.

Date: 2008-02-20 04:02 am (UTC)They keep on saying that there might be snow. I don't believe them. Oh, wait! A dusting. Ooooo. And they're talking about school closings. These people make me chuckle. :)

Date: 2008-02-21 02:32 am (UTC)Nobody is sexy in the Midwest in the winter... and we liiike it that way!
More or less.
I still remember my first February in Madison, when the temperature reached 34 degrees, and I walked out to the University Mall to people in shorts and t-shirts, blowing bubbles and playing music. Nothing compared to that joy.
