It's now official: when I drink too much I wake up at an absurd time of the morning. And when I say "drink too much" I'm talking 4 beers. And when I say "absurd time", I'm talking between 4 & 5 a.m. (I know all parents giggle at me, but for someone who's not a parent that's damned early). This is a new thing that showed up maybe 6 months ago?

So, sigh, I've got to really watch it in the future, or just know I'm going to wake up if I go to sleep drunk.

yeah, I've got that too. If I drink too much, I sleep for shit and then I have to have a nap once the alcohol is out of my system...

And it is only parents of young children that would laugh at you. I think that is early too!

sleep for shit

Exactly. There's the "not sleeping enough" coupled with the feeling that I'm a moron for getting into that situation again.

I think the think w/not sleeping & parents is that I remember my friends talking about it at the time (well, and again with jujupees & wi_c). I'm sure that for parents the worst of those sleepless nights is a distant memory.

Oh, I dunno... My nine-year-old woke me with nightmares all night last weekend. ...but for the most part, yeah, any nights without sleep are of my own volition.

I didn't get sluggish slightly-hungover mornings from a half-bottle of wine until I hit my 40s. Now, if I have more than one drink in the evening I have difficulty moving in the morning.

I hope that doesn't come up quickly. I love our beer!

Alchohol is a depressant that metabolizes into a stimulant as it is processed. I've been cursed with that no-sleep thing with alcohol my entire life.
I add that to the long queue of things that prevent me from sleeping. ;-)

I've told myself the stimulant thing when I've popped awake at 3:30 and find myself listening to the BBC for 2 hours. And cursing my stupidity.

So far that seems to be the biggest thing keeping me awake, since I worked so hard as a pre-teen to teach myself to go to sleep/turn off my head (not having spinning thoughts ahead of time, that was a new one for me). I'm still proud of my efforts.

I think you should just know that you're going to wake up. I hate to think of people (especially me) having to be sensible and control their drinking.

That knowledge certainly led to 4 or 5 beers last night: the idea that I might wake up in the middle of the night. But since I had today off, I figured I could deal.

Isn't hell to get old? I use to be fine when I drank. But now, if I do I will have a sour stomach the entire next day. And I am not talking about getting drunk here - that can be from just one drink. So sad. . .

I can see what the grown-ups were saying about alcohol being bad for us. [livejournal.com profile] jaaladay rarely drinks, if at all. Her thing has always been sugar, which is now causing her huge problems. So sad, indeed...

M'Luv talked me out of going and I was in a funk all weekend (OK, partly cuz of the weather and my employer is for sale and "other issues" perhaps). I mananged to blast their CD from the car while we were burning brush in the fire pit, though.

I really wanted to see Thieves on Holiday. We saw Dear August at the 4PSake benefit in August, but Damn, I haven't heard Chris and Co. play since January for doG's sake!

p.s.

We have the new CD at least. I'm glad it's back to happy licks, instead of ponderous guitar solos that go on for a long time. Unfortunately, my friend Steve B. saw them when they were into the long solos (and he knew the catchy stuff).
