STUNNING ABOUT FACE! REPUBLICAN MAYOR OF SAN DIEGO ABANDONS HOMOPHOBIA* AND ENDORSES SAME SEX MARRIAGE. He did it, in part, b/c his daughter is gay. There's a point made by some of the people who responded to the post above (with link to the video of the Mayor's press conference announcing his reversal and the reasons for it) that it's too bad he didn't do it before, but only b/c his daughter's gay. True, but the video still made me cry, cause the guy obviously loves his daughter.

I wonder: did his daughter come out to him like the night before and he changed, or what changed his mind?

Still, it really touched me.

*I think the person who wrote the title is unfair to call the guy homophobic: he supported civil unions & domestic partnerships before that.

These decision about policy are infrequently personal. Politicians are by nature whores. He must think that this is where his supporters are.

He seems sincere to me, particularly when he's talking about what gay people deserve - sounds like a person who's thinking hard about it on a personal level.
