it's hot, I'm a wimp
Jul. 31st, 2006 04:21 pmI came home early from work b/c of the heat. Seriously, it felt, at noon, like it does in that room at 3 (warm, getting warmer). Who the fuck designed that place again? Moron.
So I chose to do a friday fiver (not friday, darn) posted by anterastilis. Yay! It's about my name, which I so enjoy:
1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
I think my parents ran into a Father Kierans/Keirans and decided on the name (probably when they confirmed that it's Irish). Although I could be wrong on that story--one of my sisters told me that.
2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?
Surprisingly, yes, in that weird alternate universe:
Girl: Siobhan
Boy: Eamonn
Significance? They're Irish. And I think they sound cool (although poor Siobhan would have the same shit I do in name pronounciation--actually more, now that I think about it). As for middle names? I have no idea.
3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
Sean Timothy (surprise! Very Irish). I just went over what my sisters' names would have been w/my mom not that long ago, but I can't remember them at the moment. I think Patrick was in there somewhere--how could it not? And maybe Michael. We all used to know this, too, when we were growing up. Well, at least I remember my own boy name.
4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
I've never thought of that, and I have no real desire to.
5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Kieran. That happens allllll the time. Sometimes with people I work with. They literally don't see the different spelling. Really makes me pissed at myself when I screw it up (spelling other people's names wrong, not screwing up my own name spelling).

Date: 2006-08-01 04:50 am (UTC)I was told that I was named after the black sheep of my mother's family, Michael Beshoar, a physician who helped found Trinidad, CO and published its newspaper. I, on the other hand, decided not to go to medical school or start a new town or to do anything nearly as ambitious.
I think my little bro and I were supposed to be girls, but we never heard what our names were supposed to be. None of my parents three kids are daughters. There's an 87.5% chance that that wouldn't happen, given three offspring.
What was my French class name? First it was Maurice then is was Gustave, because Michel sounded too much like a girl's name and I was androgynous enough already in junior high-high school.
Kieran's
Date: 2006-08-01 01:36 pm (UTC)Alas, my parents wanted 3 boys and they got 3 girls, so be careful what you wish for, I guess. I have to assume that my parents had girls names picked out before we were born, even though they wanted boys so much.
Gustave is a cool name. I had to picked the name Naomi for Spanish class b/c there is no "K" in the Spanish alphabet. I didn't work out well--I'd never remember that this was my name in class (I should have just spelled it Quirin).

Date: 2006-08-01 11:30 pm (UTC)Oh, I've looked up all variants I can find. I almost leapt with joy when I saw my version of this name when I looked in a name-your-baby book.
I don't have enough hobbies.
