It looks like mda has strep throat. I haven't checked his throat, but he's in a lot of pain and his glands look swollen. He's talking all funny b/c he doesn't want spit to build up in his mouth b/c it hurts to swallow. I'm wracking my brains to try to help him; at least I got him to take some aspirin b/c it looks like he's got a slight fever. I gave him hot water + honey + lemon, but while he said it was pretty good, he thinks the honey is irritating his throat.

He doesn't even know who his primary care physician is (since he's had insurance for ayear and, you know, never went. ARGH); but I told him that if it's in Mad-town, I'd drive so he could see a doc; I don't want him on the road in this condition. I contemplated just going in & lying to the docs at the doctor's office, but I think they can kind of tell that thing.

Highly recommend seeing Nurse Jodi Delagrave here in SG at the Jefferson Plaza clinic. More than likely they will see him and his insurance will cover even she's not his primary care physician. Main thing is go someplace close and easy and get the rapid strep test which takes only minutes. Been through the strep thing with Z a number of times in past year or so and have the routine down. As far as I know the best answer to strep is a round of antibiotics and it's best not to wait too long.

Best to both of you. Ouch!

Nurse Jodi Delagrave--I'll have to remember her. I like Kay but I sometimes wonder about the woman's diagnostic skills.

There's no strep, btw. Oh, but he's in the hospital!! Check out my later post today if you haven't already seen it. jeeeez.

p.s.

Hospital--looks like for observation. Didn't want you to freak too much.

With strep, you can just go to UW Health Urgent Care. They're really good, but you may have to wait. It's better than putting it off and ending up waiting at the ER... You don't need a primary care physician there.

The sooner the better. It sucks to have to wonder who's going to take your insurance, but I've never had any trouble with UW.

I've had strep and it's definitely one of the scarier things I've had to deal with (except for the infected hornet sting that put on IV antibiotics), but that's another story, as David Giffey would say.

We ended up going to the ER in Sauk Prairie at 5 am. The rest of the info is in a post I just made. bleh. [short news--he's in for observation. And ERs are great, but they're so overly conscious of everything, they'll test you up the wazoo.]

hopefully not mono. I think they tested him for it, I can't remember. I know he doesn't have strep. The rest is in my later post today.
