at least my dad doesn't have the "fighting in WWII" thing hanging over his head, too.

I wonder what two years in Iraq will produce?

My Dad tried three times to get into WWII, but asthma kept him out. He's got many of the same beliefs as Mark's Dad in Doonesbury...

My dad managed to slip in & out right before any Vietnam escalation. Unfortunately, the belief that you should raise your kids to do what they really love and to not judge others is what's biting him on the ass. Poor man.

I'm actually kind of glad my parents didn't indulge my fantasy of becoming a painter. I can always do that in my spare time (what spare time). The parents can be judgmental and very Republican at times, but I still love them.

Ah. My parents indulged my fantasy of being a writer. I don't regret the path I've taken (too much) but there are times I wish we'd had that conversation. durn parents! [I keep remembering what my friend, MD, said and trying to take it to heart: "I believe that, after the age of 28, nobody can blame their lives on their parents anymore."]
