Route like "out" or like "boot"... both, but I know which one I started with 12 years ago when I moved to WI (as in "boot").

I still don't quite have a Wisconsin accent, but a night of hanging w/my friends who have southern accents, and I begin to hear it in my head as I'm speaking. I think it has to do w/my parents.

Then there was the time I wandered for days in Paris, taken in by the kindness of strangers. I unwittingly picked up a French accent after about 3 days.

I have a tendency to pick up an accent if I've been in the area long enough. (I'm trying like hell not to pick up the Rhode Island accent right now, but I hear it creeping in!) This is how I turned out with this one:

Not surprising at all! But I have a beef with the author. I don't drink from a water fountain or a drinking fountain, it's called a "bubbler" (pronounced bubblah) where I come from.

Yeah, how could they not include a bubbler? And what is the definition of Upper Midwestern? That may be where I live.
