Hans Christian Anderson
Apr. 13th, 2005 08:19 pmI'm listening to a repeat of Here on Earth, w/Jean Feraca, because I am interested in the subject. But I have a difficult time trying to keep from yelling at Jean. She's so annoying. How annoying she is, is almost unending. I find it so difficult to believe that she has legions of fans. However, she still acquires some great guests, so I listen. And often curse Jean as I do so.
Why is she annoying? I think there are several reasons.
*She constantly speaks about things, with her guests, that she clearly does not know anything about. It is so obvious in the way she phrases her responses.
*And yet, she emotes these responses with this pseudo-sense of importance. That bothers me more than anything, I would bet. My favorite indicative moment of this aspect of Jean's responses came from her old show on Wisconsin Public Radio on Fridays, when they would talk about food. She was talking to a pasta expert.
*And the last thing: her laugh. Hate her laugh. Sounds totally fake.
Mda saw Jean a few times at the bookstore he worked at in Madison. And he said that there was an unspoken rule within the staff that when she would come by (mini-celebrity that she is) to pick up a book and say, "I'm Jean Feraca!" that they ask, "How do you spell that?"

Date: 2005-04-14 01:05 pm (UTC)Knowing a Jacobsen and Andersen, I would ask if Stetson's spelled with an "o" or an "e" at the end. When I've worked at bookstores, and someone would order a book, even if there name was Smith I would spell it out. Could by Smyth.
.ask if Stetson's spelled with an "o" or an "e"
