May. 20th, 2004 08:45 amMy flute teacher says I'm really doing well w/Syrinx (by Claude Debussy; here's a brief download of it). Of course, she says I do well in a lot of things. I am noticing an improvement in the upper register; of course, I still don't sound as rich as her. It would probably help if I didn't drink the occasional BEER while practicing (um, not v.good for the embouchure).... Well, and SMOKING doesn't help in playing the flute, either, but that should be completely obvious by now, anyway.
Months ago I was in a quandary about her wedding, and I was going to lie that I had a party to go to on that day. Actually, I do have a party to go to on that day, one that I was invited to back in January. I could make it to part of the event (Tammy's wedding), but the problem is that the part I could make it to would be the Catholic wedding ceremony. The reception doesn't start until 4 hours later. Wtf?? I've seen 2-3 hours, but never 4. Mda says I should drive in, go to the receiving line, then leave. I have to break the news to her. The invites didn't have an RSVP card in them, which is also v.weird. Not that I care about all of the little wedding rules, but some of them make a lot of sense. How the hell will they know how many people are coming?
I forget, but I think you get a present for someone whether or not you go to their wedding (I've never refused before). I've thought about making a stained glass/music-themed thing for her, but she does have a lot of music-themed things, and I don't know her tastes v.well, so... Off to Target. I love the fact that people can register at places like Target & Home Depot nowadays.
