I'm sitting v. close to the monitor, "touch-typing" b/c I took off my glasses. I'm dyeing my hair (it washes out in 28 shampooes). Some auburny color, which I am wont to do. I'm waiting for the timer to go off in order to rinse, or else I'd pick up the phone & call my sister, the older one. I have a nephew, as of last Sunday (are we lame in this family, or what?). Anyway, his name is McCray (mac). 21", 7lbs, 7 oz.

Oh, and from the message on the answering machine (which is how I received this knowledge), he looks like a little old man. But then again, so did my neice when she was born.

Congratulations, Aunt.

Thanks. Things look pretty good (after the ugly, scary, "Why we had to have a c-section" talk). My niece doesn't quite know what to do with the situation, apparently. Half-thinks he's cute, half-hates him, is half taking it out on my sister, and half loving her. Kids' stuff.

That's good. Miss Niece will warm up to him eventually, surely. In the case of my brother redneck and I, it took 20 years, but it does happen. How old is she?

She'll be 3 in early April. She's a little disgusted that she's been knocked off her perch.

What a cute name. All babies look like little old men...of course they grow out of it, until they grow back into it.

Are you saying that there's been a baby for a week and you're just haring of it?

Yep. Just heard about it.

I thought about E&J this week, wondering if I should call to see if they had a kid yet. It makes some sense, b/c J was in the hospital until Wed., and E is dealing w/stuff, but then again, when E (my sister) called to tell me about my nephew, she said, "I did tell you we were having a kid, right?" I wish my mom would have left a message. lame lame lame. But I can't so much blame 'em. It's not like we talk every week. In fact, I haven't talked to my mom since x-mas.

That sounds like the kind of thing that happens in my family. I am sure I'll go home someday and find out someone has died, like, months ago, without anyone telling me about it.

Oh good. Good to know I'm not alone.

My favorite was when my dad wrote me a letter telling me that my cat had lost her eyesight and was getting pretty bad, and "we're going to have to put her to sleep soon." It was the middle of December. I figured they were preparing me for having her put to sleep at x-mas. Nope. That was my dad's way of telling me the were putting her to sleep, like the day after he sent the letter. I even read the letter to my mom after I got back from x-mas, and she said, "Yeah. That doesn't sound like we were putting her to sleep right away. I can see why you thought she was still alive."
