non sequitar
Feb. 10th, 2005 01:58 pmI woke up this morning w/one of those songs I liked as a young adolescent going through my head: "Don't let him steal your heart away," by Phil Collins. I don't think I've really thought of that song since I was 15-16 and still pining away for guys who wouldn't give me the time of day. (I would just take the chorus and change the pronouns).
But then I was thinking about the lyrics, and I thought, "Why the f*ck wouldn't she let this guy 'steal' her 'heart away'"? Sounds like the guy singing the song was sort of an idiot...
Some lyrics follow--which I hope to edit to keep down the gathering annoyance
"You were lonely and you needed a friend
And he was there at the right time with the right smile
Just a shoulder to lean on
Someone to tell you it’ll all work out alright....
You can look at him the way you did me
And hold him close say you’re never letting go
But any fool can see you’re fooling yourself
But you ain’t fooling me...
Yeah, right. Ok, dude, who exactly is fooling themselves here? Looks to me like she's lookin' at him the way she used to look at you, and you're saying that she's fooling herself? Yeah. Right
And don’t pack my suitcase, I’ll be back
And don’t take my pictures off a’ the wall
Oh, did you hear me?
Don’t let him change a thing ’cos I’ll be back
Jus tell him to pack his things and get out of your life
And just give me one more chance
I’ll show you I’m right, I’m right
’cos I’ve been thinking and I know it was me leaving you lonely
But hoping you could be strong
But could you look at me straight
Tell me what else can I do but say I was wrong?"
Ok, now I think it was the lyrics above that really got me thinking about this. "What else can I do but say I was wrong?" I don't know, but it seems to me that this dude just totally blew it, and he should wait for that girl that he sang that other song to, "Against all odds."
my roommate in boarding school when I was a sophomore loved that song so much that she would play it about 25 times a day, seriously, until I begged her to please stop. We got her down to 3 times a day eventually.
He'd probably be much happier with her (the "Against all Odds" woman), especially from what he's learned from his assinine behaviour with this woman.
Anyway, that was a lot for me to waste my time on this morning, but it amused me in the shower.
