a.) pick ten movies that are special to you.
b.) post a line of dialogue from each of these movies.
c.) cross 'em out as people guess 'em.
d.) NO GOOGLING ALLOWED!!!

i've got the lines correctly identified behind the cuts, as well as my reasons for choosing them.

1. "I don't want to get into a semantic argument about it, I just want the protein, all right?" Grosse Point Blank, guessed correctly by [livejournal.com profile] wi_c
That line comes after Martin Blank is trying to order an "all-white omelette" with "nothing in it, nothing at all." The waitress says, "Well, technically, that isn't an omelette."

First of all, I graduated from high school in 1986, so my 10-year reunion was the same year as Marty Blank's. It's also John Cusack in one of his most incredible roles (and damned sexy, too). It has great moments, big and small. My favorite two "little" moments are when he leaves his car whie the soundtrack is playing "Live and Let Die" by Guns and Roses. He walks into the convenience store that stands where his house used to, and "Live and Let Die" is playing in the background in Muzak. "You can never go home again! But at least you can shop there." The other one is when he's about to go to his reuinion, and he's having this crisis about being a hitman. He looks in the mirror and is saying, "Hi. I'm Martin Blank. I've never been married. Don't have any kids. And I'd blow your brains out if someone paid me enough." And then he gets this look on his face that is contemplative, sad, and confused. The movie has also engendered in me a love of the song, "I can see clearly now..."

2. "He wants you for possession, like a painting, or an ivory box."
[livejournal.com profile] wi_c came the closest when he thought it was a Merchant Ivory film. Because it is a Merchant Ivory film: Room with a View. This line is when Mr George Emerson is trying to tell Miss Lucy Honeychurch that she shouldn't marry her betrothed, Cecil (played by Daniel Day-Lewis, who walks around like he got part of his character motivation from acting like a peacock).

A movie I used to watch whenever I had 2 hours to spare. Oh, love at (almost) first sight. Oh, the beautiful Italian landscapes. Oh, beautiful Justin Sands. There he is, being sensitive. There he is, running around naked. Then he ended up in Arachnaphobia. Oh, Rupert Graves, who we loved so much in Maurice.

3. "Why couldn't you just put the bunny down?" Con Air, solved by [livejournal.com profile] wi_c
This line comes after Nicolas Cage's character has to kill a bad guy who's taken the bunny Cage got for his daughter's birthday out of a box, and will reveal the secret of Cage's character to "Cyrus the Virus," played by John Malkovish. WI-C should've known that movie, which sparked almost as much post-movie conversation at the Shed as Periscope Down. Like the campy movie below, it's just silly, and filled w/funny, weird lines. What can I say? I'm a sucker for well-written camp. And it also has John Cusack.

"What's that?" "That's a rock."
"On any other day, that might seem strange."
"Define irony," says Stave Buscemi's insane mass murderer character, "A bunch of idiots dancing around in a plane... to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash." (And they end the movie w/this same character having redeemed himself and playing craps to the tune of "Sweet Home Alabama," the aforementioned song).

4. "He breathes methane like oxygen" (ok, well that's what's said in the dubbing). Heroic Trio, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wi_c (I hope he would, since I've pummelled him w/that movie for 7 years :)
"Thief Catcher," one of the Heroic Trio of the title (Maggie Chueng, who played "Flying Snow" in Hero), says that when she and "Wonder Woman" (the amazing Anita Mui, tragically dead of cervical cancer at the age of 42) are down in the subterranean lair of the King of the Underworld, who has had the "Invisible Woman" (Michelle Yeoh) stealing baby boys for him to reincarnate himself into. The plot makes no sense, and it doesn't matter. As I wrote to WI-C: best.chick-chop-sockey movie. EVER. "Wonder Woman" makes her debut by running across telephone wires, then doing a split on same telephone wires. She later jumps from a 5-story building to save a little girl and a kitten and lands safely on her feet. The "Invisible Woman" flips a manhole cover with her toe while wearing this totally cool red outfit. Thief Catcher makes her debut by walking up in this totally sexy outfit and putting dynamite into a barrell to shoot her up to a window where some bad guys have taken hostages. Wind always seems to be softly blowing. This crazy guy eats his own finger after it's cut off by Invisible Woman. 2 of the women go flying through the air on a motorcycle that inexplicably spins in circles. In the air. The fights look like ballet. All this, way before "Crouching Tiger".

5. "Yes they do, Otto, they just don't understand it." A Fish Called Wanda, another one for [livejournal.com profile] wi_c
The line is from Jamie Lee Curtis's character after Otto says, "Monkey's don't read philosophy." The first "adult" funny movie I ever saw, with an orgasm scene that I was able to laugh at, sitting next to my own mother. Yep, my mom and I were both hysterical over Kevin Kline's orgasm w/Jamie Lee Curtis. And I'm not scarred.

6. "Rescue the damsel in distress. Kill the bad guy. Save the world."
One of my all-time favorite silly, campy films: The Mummy, w/Brendan Fraser, and that woman. As well as some other people. Many people would probably say this was a dumb film, and well, it is, but I thought it was a hell of a lot of fun. And I still do. I didn't like the sequel, unfortunately. But that doesn't matter.
"I've been to Hamunaptra."
"You swear?"
"Every damn day."

"And you think that justifies the killing of innocent people?
"To stop this creature? Let me think... YES!"

"I've never seen a mummy so--"
"Juicy?"

"Oh, and you know how they took out your brains? They took a red hot poker, stuck it up your nostrils, swished things around a bit, and pulled it all back out again."
"Ooh, that's got to hurt."
"It's called mummification, you'll be dead when they do this."

7. "I'm wet... I'm in pain... and I'm still hysterical!" The Producers, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] cursethedark
What can I say? Mel Brooks's first movie, and along w/Young Frankentstein and Blazing Saddles among his best. Could a movie be released today that has a song called, "Springtime for Hitler" and not be attacked? Well, yes, I know that the Producers made it big on Broadway, and now they're making that into a movie, but I guess, not a brand new movie. "You know, not a lot of people know this, but the Fuhrer was a terrific dancer."

8. “Nothing to forgive, Sydney, nothing.” I guess the first "adult film" that I ever liked: The Killing Fields.
It's the movie's last line, where Dith Pran, who is in a refugee camp, comes up to his reporter partner, Sydney. Pran, or is it Dith? had been Sidney's cameraman, and had stayed in Cambodia instead of leaving with his family years before, at the request of Sydney. They hide out in the embassy, and after trying some subterfuge, fail to save Pran, who is cast out into the country now ruled by the Khmer Rouge. Sydney comes to Pran in the camp to take him to the US and says, "Can you ever forgive me?" And that's Pran's reply. There are 2 moments in that movie that always make me cry: the one where Pran has to leave the embassy, and that last line.
Some people in the reporting business still believe that Sydney was doing it all for a Pulitzer, and thought of his own career before the life of his cameramen. I don't know if that's true, but it's a great movie. And this, froma person who hates deep and sad movies. didn't I say that I was sensitive?

9. "Her insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase." Raising Arizona, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] cursethedark
Can't say anything about this movie that hasn't already been said by others better than me. "I need me a baby, HI. They got more than they can handle. Now, you go back in there and get me a toddler."

10. "There is no spoon." The Matrix, guessed again! by [livejournal.com profile] cursethedark! Thanks for playing, cursie!
The sequels sucked, and some people think this movie is existential pulp, that it dips a little too much into the Alice in Wonderland theme, but when I first saw it... I was totally floored. It also felt like the first time that computer effects had really been used to their full extent.

I completely missed this, but that's ok. The only one I would've known was #7 anyway.

You've got me beat on movies and books. I know I'd never be able to guess anything you put out there.

I don't know about that. I'm trying to think of what I would choose for a thing like this, and my choices are all pretty common, I think.

Here. I did it just for you.

1. Oh, you're right. And when you're right, you're right. And you - you're always right.
2. He shot her a glance, as a smile played around his lips.
3. And that's Capricorn, is it?
4. If you wasn't a girl, I'd split you like a chicken.
5. Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down.
6. We do the concentrating and the Poles do the camping.
7. I think the auto-destruct mechanism got hit and blew itself up.
8. Yes, sir, a veritable Age of Reason--like the one they had in France.
9. Would you like to smell the bottlecap?
10. You don't want to get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner. A rebel.

The only ones I know immediately are #9 &10. The Muppet Movie and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

#1 sounds familier.

Well, 3, 7 and 8 are some of my favourite films. I'm not ashamed to say I adore and watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure whenever I get a chance.

Z and I watched it yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that. And the day before that...

I bought her a Pee-We's Playhouse box set for xmas just for some variety.

We watched it yesterday with a houseful of hungover people who had spent the night. One guest (Vern) had me looking for nude pics of Elizabeth (E.G.) Daily - "Dotty" in the Big Adventure. He remembers her from "Valley Girl". As he is now a dad, I had to ruin it for him and tell him that she is also the voice of "Babe" in "Pig in the City."

Aw, I'm sorry we couldn't participate in the hungover activities. We were doing the pseudo-pagan ritual, anyway.

I imagine Pee Wee's Big Adventure would be good when you're hungover. I also remembered "Dotty" from "Valley Girl." She dances around in leopard skin underwear and pigtails. I don't know what happened to the Valley Girl, though.

Actually, I remember her from Valley Girl as well. I think she's all the Powerpuff Girls, too.

Did you look for any photos of Morgan Fairchild naked?
