About a month ago, I was thinking about what I wanted for x-mas, and realized that while I could always do w/more clothes, and more money, and more everything, there wasn't really anything I need. So I just got the news on the x-mas present I got from my mom: she went to the sister school to her parish and filled the requests of 2 girls, 9 & 5. She got them warm coats, a pair of Levi's, puzzles, dolls and some books. She got them everything they asked for with less than the $ she would normally spend on me.

Definitely, this was a good gift to ask for. It's made me very happy.

Yeah, I'd say it is.

Of course, I am now guilty of the sin of vanity for putting this up here, but it has made me very happy.

Duh! If SO. I'm glad you people know what I'm talking about even when I can't type it right.

I've read about a bunch of this, and It Is Good™

I hope to be able to do some of it myself one day.

I love doing stuff like that. This year at work we adopted 4 families for the holidays. Usually we only take three, but then we found out about this fourth family whose father (who was their biggest bread-winner) died in his sleep around Thanksgiving. Between the funeral and the pay cut, their Christmas was looking bleak. So, we took them in too.

We all took on a few more presents than we normally would to accommodate the four families, and we ended up getting them almost everything that they asked for. When we dropped everything off, people who knew the families actually cried because they never expected such generosity.

It feels good to be able to help people like that. And since it is your present, I don't think that it's vain to talk about it. (Although, my guilty Catholic conscience would be feeling that way too. ;)) But hey -- it's not like you asked the family to name a room in their house after you! ;) :) So, go for it! :)

Aw, that's so fantastic! Your job does a great thing.

Speaking of presents, I should really get to wrapping the rest of mine....
