Well, now he's saying that he was shot at first after being called racial slurs. Now I'm really confused. Is this something that you can figure out from ballistics?

Although the original details I heard, that he was wearing cammo not hunter orange, were incorrect. He was wearing cammo, but had the bright orange hunter identification "vest" over it. In fact, that's how he was caught--they identified his hunter number.

Well, they would be able to tell if the rifles were fired.. but what if those hunters fired back in self-defense.. then that wouldn't help much.

Depends on the story. If everyone agrees that the shooting happened after the guy got down from the tree stand, then it will be harder to figure out. If the victims say he started shooting from the tree stand, the trajectory of the bullets should prove or disprove their story.

Yes, that would just be terrible. I picture a buck thinking, "I always knew it would come to this."

Actually, know that I think of it, this isn't the first time someone murdered someone else in WI during deer hunting season, while trying to make it look like an accident. This story is not entirely applicable of course, but it does come to mind.

What I don't understand is why racial slurs were the impetus to kill all those people. He must have snapped!

mmm--I'll have to read up on it to see what those racial slurs had to do with the shooting.

If I may digress into Taliesin-country, the man who set fire to Wright's home and murdered 7 people w/an ax was also supposedly antagonized by another worker. I tell people that on tour sometimes when they ask people why Julian Carlton killed those people. But it still doesn't make any sense.

I can't for the life of me think of a racial slur for Hmong. As my Korean friend once noted to someone who called her a chink--"Oh, you see, I'm Korean. So I should properly be called a gook."

But there will be a twist! It will turn out that the woman who was engaged to the guy who survived was actually the killer's lover and he killed everyone to cover up the fact that he got her pregnant.
