Oct. 17th, 2004 11:43 amI'm beginning to think I'd make a terrible mother after all.... Gila has been puking every once in awhile on the carpet. She'll puke (hairballs), I'll clean it up when I get a chance, then that day she'll puke again. But not if I don't clean it up. Or I'll vaccuum her hair up, then 2 hours later, hair starts appearing on the floor again. And I think, "Why do I bother?" Leading to the thought of the first sentence. I wonder if I'd change a kid's diaper all the time. "Why do it? They're just going to need it again." Of course, that would be a kid, not a cat, but I did start to wonder about that. Doesn't make me feel too good about myself. Yes, I am fully aware that this is theoretical. I was thinking about it last night, and the specter of sitting on our couch w/our child in my arms has begun to take on the unreal glow of walking down the aisle, or getting published, or getting enough money to save Tal.
I'm not pissy about it today, just thoughtful.
Yesterday's tours went well. I had interested parties all around [and a $10 tip! Bought myself cigs, gave the remainder--$7--to mda for groceries]. Not like another guy who took out a tour on Thursday, came back and said, "I had a French architect on my tour who's into historic preservation. Him, and a couple from Oklahoma who just came back from House on the Rock." [it's the "House on the Rock" that gets the real notice, here.]
mda & I watched "The Day After Tomorrow" last night (after which I read cleolinda's take on it in m15m, movies in 15 minutes, on lj). Jake Glyenhall, however you spell it, is a hottie for some reason, but in a boyish way that makes me feel just slightly ashamed of myself, like I've got a crush on a high school student. 'Course, he's a high school student in the movie, so that compounds it. T.D.A.T. had some funky, creepy special effects and some things that didn't make sense, but it wasn't a bad ride. Then we watched Alien Visitor, an Aussie movie about a woman from Epsilon who gets stuck on earth and meets a surveyor out in the desert. It was interesting b/c there were only the 2 of them for the whole movie, and w/v.simple effects they conveyed an otherworldliness; but on the other hand, it was simple-minded environmentalism. She rags on earthlings for polluting our planet, but doesn't explain how everyone else in the universe has evolved into not doing it. And the factors of survival, and poverty on pollution aren't addressed at all. Or how there have always been people working on environmental factors, but that there are extrememly complex issues involved.
Afterwards, we watched "The best of Jimmy Fallon" on SNL. I've always thought he was a little snot, but to see his voices and characters all together was really entertaining. And mda confessed that, once again, he does have a crush on Tina Fey, for which he apologized in a manly way. I replied, "Hey, you have a crush on an intelligent, funny, beautiful woman with glasses and dark hair." I take that as a compliment and think it's sweet. We both agreed that it's much better than him having a crush on a plastic surgery freak. I think I still have a crush on Brendan Frasier, so I don't know what that means for me, considering that the guy played George of the Jungle.

Date: 2004-10-18 05:52 am (UTC)As for parenting goes, I'll admit I think the same thing about cleaning up after children. I do change the diapers, because really, you know, you have to, but often I'll look at a mess and choose to ignore it knowing that it'll just be a new mess in a few minutes anyway.
Yes, this is why my house is always a complete mess. Sue me, I guess.
