I decided to check out the lj community devoted to my old college. I found a post from a kid who's been at Emerson for a month, and he wrote this list on his observations at the school. 14 years later, and the guy has it down pat (mostly, although I don't remember aviator sunglasses):

"I've been here about a month now. And don't get me wrong, I really like the school. Some facets of it struck me as humorous though, and now I will make an asinine post voicing a few suggestions of what Emerson should change it's...motto...thingy to. Don't be offended...I fall prey to some of these too.

Emerson College-Haven for students with a knack for stating the obvious
Emerson College-Where no one will think you rediculous for wearing aviator sunglasses indoors
Emerson College-Because the modernity is SO unsatisfying
Emerson College-We're self-absorbed...AND LOVING IT.
Emerson College-Some of us were popular in high school, for real
Emerson College-Because it's better to spend your trust fund on us and not cocaine
Emerson College-Diversity? Yeah we saw a chinese girl once. or maybe she's japanese. whatever, she's asian.

Emerson--"Expression Necessary to Evolution" was the tagline when I was there. Communications studies, acting, writing. I just dropped the kid a line, too. Although most of my male friends were gay when I was there.

heh. Yes, I think after 14 years, my take home pay finally matches what tuition was per year between 1986-1990. I guess I'm a typical graduate, then. But, hey, my roommate from freshman year married Mel Brooks' son, so that's something!
