Good Friday
Apr. 3rd, 2026 10:29 pmFor most of the day, I forgot that was going on. First time in a long time I didn't remember what Good Friday was like when I was growing up (I've written about it here: https://likethebeer.livejournal.com/tag/good%20friday/ ).
But Pope Leo XIV walked through with the cross and did the 14 Stations of the Cross today. Here's a thing from CNN about it: https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/03/world/video/pope-leo-carries-cross-good-friday-digvid-vrtc
Although I was surprised at how small the cross was that he carried. I was figuring he would do what we all talked about growing up: like a cross that's 10 feet long and 6 feet wide.
It's been so long I can't remember all of them, although he falls twice (no, three times), one woman wipes his brow, someone carries the cross for awhile (Simon?), he comforts the women.... I can't remember the rest. I'll put a link to a Wikipedia page here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stations_of_the_Cross
When I was in grade school, we had this re-enactment of the 14 stations and we students did it all, with one person playing Jesus and the rest of us standing and re-enacting the Stations. I was in one of them, but I can't remember which. I might have been one of the women he comforts. In the WIkipedia page it just says that he meets the women of Jerusalem, but I was taught that he comforted them.
Although with bad memories from childhood, there was this bitchy nun who just laid into me for some reason after we were done, while I was by myself, had to talk about how fat I was. Oh, if you want to know you can see that photo of me that I posted at the top of this post: https://keiranmurphy.com/dune-by-frank-herbert/
You can't really see it because I've got my cat on my lap. At my heaviest I was about 35 pounds overweight. So about 155 at 5'4".
