Once again, I am reminded that volunteer work sometimes smacks those on the head with the most heart.
Today was the 7th annual SG Literary Festival. Overall, I think it went well. People liked the space, which is not their usual space. We moved it this year to hillside, on my turf, the Tal. estate.
Last night, I spent 5 hours prepraing for our friday night reading. Mostly because I somehow got shanoogled into putting up tiki torches in the hard-packed ground, which was an impossible job; and also because it took me 45 minutes to find a funnel for the tiki torch fuel. This led me to drive to my home and, while looking for the funnel I knew we had, saying to my bf, "I think the universe hates me."
Today, I drove to hillside, arriving at 8:30 in time to open portions of the building. Morning snacks were had in the theater, and I said to Gil (husband of one of our board members, JE), "Tell me what you need." He was preparing lunch for the fest. He gave me v.good direction, and from about 9:45 on, I was a happy lackey. I filled pitchers w/water, iced tea, juice. I checked trash. I cleaned. I took almost no part in the fest. Which was just fine w/me.
There were decisions made w/out my knowledge leading up to this fest that I would rather have not been made. Ok, well let's get real here: there were fucking stupid mistakes that had implications for the tour program. These mistakes were made w/out my knowledge and w/out the consultation with our board. Frankly, only 1 other person on our board could have understood the implications of these decision, b/c he used to work at Tal., but he couldn't really have been consulted. He's got some serious personal stuff going on. I should have been. We were cluster-fucked. The tour program, that is. And is usual when working with antyhing that has to do w/Tal., the tour program had to take some hits.
So I was glad to work in the kitchen today, b/c I would be furious about these decisions.
I'll get the tour download later, but overall, the fest was successful. And I am tired.
