I didn't realize that Billy Connolly came up with the line I think of when I think of what the meaning of "intellectual" is: "My definition of an intellectual is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger."

And I like this one: Jimmy Carr (15 September 1972): "I saw that show, 50 Things To Do Before You Die. I would have thought the obvious one was 'Shout For Help.'"

I love the Bob Newhart one about country music. Mae West was always good for a one liner, too. “I generally avoid temptation, unless I can’t resist it.”

Give 'em an inch and they'll want Cleveland.

Slate recommends that the next silicon valley be in Cleveland (http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/the_next_silicon_valley/2013/12/move_silicon_valley_america_needs_a_tech_hub_in_a_place_where_it_s_welcome.html).

I don't know what that means about giving someone an inch.

I think Mae West was using Cleveland as a variant on the cleavage theme. We may never actually know.

The Cleveland renaissance is puzzling to me. Why not Milwaukee? I'll try to remember to read the Slate article.

If they promise to take Cleveland someplace warm, they can have as many inches as they want.

It would be a good location for a medical tech company. Landing Google seems farfetched. But if Google wanted to move here we’d pretty bend over backward to make Google happy.

Woody Allen (1 December 1935-):
'Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon.'

Yes, except I can't escape the sense that, as he gets older, he keeps getting creepier (it's that step-daughter).

Actually that borderline incest helped create a lot of the misery, loneliness, and suffering in Mia Farrow's life. Woody must have been reading Nabakov.
