Take Them at Their Words: Shocking, Amusing and Baffling Quotations From the GOP and Their Friends, 1994-2004," compiled by Bruce J. Miller & Diana Maio.

"[Abortion rights activists] are homosexuals, wimps, and/or Jewish lawyers." -- Talk-radio host Stan Solomon, WIBC/Indianapolis, as reported in the Indianapolis Star, 6/9/94

"I don't care about the circumstances of a child's conception. You want to execute somebody in the case of rape, execute the rapist and let the unborn child live." -- Pat Buchanan, New York Times, 2/24/96

"If guns are outlawed, how can we shoot the liberals?"-- Mississippi state Sen. Mike Gunn (R), Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 12/31/96 [that's actually quite funny, but of course horrifying. But funny. But really, really bad and horrible.]

[I'm wondering if anyone has reminded O'Reilly of this yet] "And I said on my program, if the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it's clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again." -- Bill O'Reilly, "Good Morning America," ABC, 3/18/03

"I don't understand how poor people think." -- George W. Bush, New York Times, 8/26/03 [No, George, we didn't think you did. ]

"Why is Earth Day, today, also Lenin's birthday? Coincidence? Or does it signal the true intent of the national and worldwide environmental movement?" -- Alan Caruba, Fargo Forum, 4/22/97

[Our own Tommy Thompson] "I thought [Jesus Christ] was a free enterpriser ... He was a carpenter's son and I thought he was doing well. He was able to change water into wine; now that to me is the classic definition of a guy in the entrepreneurial spirit." -- Gov. Tommy Thompson, R-Wis., responding to a reporter who asked him if Jesus was a socialist, Madison (Wis.) Capital Times, 7/10/96

And the creme de la creme of these quotes that explains so much: "When I see someone who is making anywhere from $300,000 to $750,000 a year, that's middle class." -- Rep. Fred Heineman, R-N.C., Washington Post, 10/29/96 Under thsoe circumstances, I would love to be poor, because that means I would be earning, like $30,000 a year.

OHMYFUCKINGGOD! And to think that I thought that perhaps, one day with a whole lotta hard work, we could attain a middle class lifestyle.

Sad and funny, and really, it all makes me wonder why these people are so influential when they're so clueless.

The republican bf I had, who was extremely well off, once said in all seriousness, "Now, I know that insurance is expensive. I'd be willing to pay more for insurance if other people only had to pay $400/mo."
"Um, Kevin? That's too much money for a lot of people."
"What are you talking about."
"A lot of people can't afford to pay that. I know I can't."
"What are you talking about. That's too much money? You're scaring me!"
Yes, Virginia, there are poor people.

I very much enjoyed this.. thanks.

Do you think O'Reilly would deflect saying the President was given bad information? You think? Maybe? God they're annoying.

Once again, Salon.com gives me info. The book actually has about 1,000 quotes gathered over the last 10 years.

No, I really don't think that O'Reilly would do that. He would deny it, then when confonted w/the footage, say that it was taken out of context.
