“I’m not sure we’re done with this fiddler crab yet.”

“Don’t be such a perfectionist, evolution, it’s good enough.”

“But the claws are totally different sizes, don’t you think people will notice?”

“Dude, it’s fine, let’s go make some birds with funny butt feathers.”

Quiz Kids: "Elizabeth Kenny" 01/24/43
A quiz show with kids answering questions about literature, world events, and general knowledge. I feel bad for Harvey - he doesn't seem to be doing too well.... There was just a girl who is, I think, 6 who they couldn't get to stfu. Nice to know things aren't new. Oh, and since she was 6 (I think) that means she was born within a year of my father.

Oh, and they were answering questions on "which city in the United States is in the same latitude as this city" and they asked about Rome and some other place (Chicago is on the same latitude - damn, didn't know that).... And - crap - one of the kids just translated French. And Italian. That might be the girl who's a sophomore but, damn, I don't think I could do the French translation - and the moderator told her well, she "almost" got all of the Italian. Damn, dude, give her a break.... And now they're talking about Greek mythology, which I didn't learn until I was a freshman in high school. And, yes, I know I was learning more. What the heck, I don't know.

Oh, and they were answering questions about troop maneuvers. in the war.

Sister Elizabeth Kenny is from Australia and is talking about the March of Dimes & infantile paralysis.
Philip Marlowe: "Bid for Freedom" 01/21/50
Marlowe followed a woman who was talking to him, but ran in fear. And.... Fistfight!

Turns out that she (Helen; or, her real name, Charlotte) ran out of an insane asylum. It seems she was committed by her husband. Still, she might be going back to him.

So... Marlowe has just been accosted by someone who thinks he's the husband. This other man is acting like he's all smart and smarmy, but he's just given him all the information that he needed, thinking Marlowe is somebody else. Guy's not so smart.

But he is smarmy enough to come back & punch Marlowe in the face (once he figured out he might have made a mistake on the identification).

Well, now Marlowe's met the husband (who, among all his other problems, has got some someone - the smarmy guy - coming after him for money). Good thing, Marlowe hit the smarmy guy....

And the husband is a murderer & set up his wife. Ah, Marlowe - lots of double crosses. Charlotte's voice is good at sounding nice and reedy and crazy (sort of like a whispy Marilyn Monroe). But she'll be fine, soon.
The Shadow: The Society of the Living Dead" 01/23/38
Phone passport racket! Names are taken from tombstones! I'm glad that they're talking about it on the radio.

... the voice of Margo Lane (Agnes Moorehead) is always so pretty. She never sounds like Endora, Samantha's mother on Bewitched, no matter how much I try (maybe it's because I haven't seen the t.v. show in probably 30 years).

The Shadow is in a vault being flooded & can only save one (of the two) and of course he's going to let the other guy die, b/c the other guy is bad, and that's how things go. But at least the other guy died because of also being shot.

Well, good thing for The Shadow, the bad guy who was flooding the vault had to stay and gloat, which led to the bad guy (the head of the ring that stole passports for spies, the "Society of the Living Dead") to get shot by the cops.

Tonight is a night of really stupid criminals. More stupid than the usual.
Escape: "Papa Benjamin" 01/24/48
Jazz, New Orleans, and voodoo.

Oops, so the lead character followed the drummer to a voodoo house, stole their voodoo chant, and that's all going to go badly.

... yup. It's going to go badly. It's going to kill Eddie.

And it did. Even after Eddie killed Papa Benjamin.
