Biography on David Wojnarowicz
Oct. 30th, 2012 08:08 amReading the intro to Fire in the Belly, by author Cynthia Carr, she wrote: "I met him in 1982 and interviewed him in 1990 for a Village Voice cover story."1 My breath caught in my throat: I know exactly what article she's talking about: it was the first time I'd ever heard of Woj. This woman (&, of course, the artist) had a direct & profound impact on my life: 4 ½ years after I read her article, I defended my Master's Thesis about the man's art.
Here's a nice review of the book:

Natch, his 1992 untitled piece2 with the text from an essay, "Spiral", is my "art" icon (above).
1Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz, p. 4.
2I do wish the dude had given more of his artworks TITLES for chrissakes. It's annoying.
