likethebeer: (Old time radio)
Theatre Guild: "Still Life" 04/06/47
Written by Noel Coward. Ingrid Bergman as Laura. Sam Wanamaker as Alec. Bergman plays a wife who's fallen in love with a married man (Alec). I think the guy is screwing with her, personally - always coming up w/reasons to be with her, even though they have kids (well, it is Ingrid Bergman).

And I'm wondering where this is coming in with Bergman's scandal - didn't she break up a marriage?... Ok, she fell in love with Roberto Rossellini and left her husband 2 years after this. Oh, and wow - Bergman was denounced on the floor of the Senate! Makes life nowadays seem a lot easier.

Later: now that doctor (Alec) has just tried to get her to sleep with him - what a scumbag. On the other hand, she keeps going back to him.

Later: this is sponsored by U.S. Steel - wow, there are over 100,000 people working for them. And people who have worked for them for decades.

Ok - at least the guy took another job to get away from her. Good job, dude, b/c you really have put the girl into a bad position. But fortunately, they've been interrupted by an annoying woman who won't shut up. End of story. Except that the woman's husband (who's been doing the crossword all through the program while Bergman gives the story of the man she just left) does seem to know his wife's mind has been somewhere, and he just says that he's happy she's back. Awww.
Dragnet: "The Big No Tooth" 04/05/55
As usual, Joe Friday is listening to someone bore the hell out of him. Sure, it was about a guy w/a shotgun, but the witness told you plenty of stuff to be bored by.

Oh, yeah: the boring man is BACK to bore you. He couldn't sleep last night. He doesn't listen to himself talk, I'm thinking.

Now one of the managers of a hotel just told the police lieutenants (including Joe Friday) investigating the story way more than you wanted to know about her relationship with her husband (also a hotel manager - I think he's the guy with the shotgun). Although I think this is part of the appeal of this show - you get lots of crazy information from completely unknown people (except for Joe Friday, of course).

Well, what was I thinking: of course the hotel manager wasn't the guy (the guy was one of the longterm residents of the hotel). I have to remember that I'm listening to Dragnet - official cases. No fiction writing here, man.
Suspense: "You Died Last Night" 04/01/62
As always, nice and creepy.... With a fuzzy orange teddy bear!

.... Totally a story that could have been on X Minus One - an advanced race comes down to check out human beings in 1962. Has a time machine/spaceship, destroys the earth because of our nuclear tests, and the narrator goes back in time, destroys the spaceship before all this stuff, and we have 15 years to fix everything (I'm so glad that this stuff is just stories right now).
Yay! Bob and Ray!!!
They've just told us, "In a fine story that will keep you in... ~~Anxiety~~ (like the show "Suspense").
