"Proteins That Could Be Used to Halt HIV Are Identified"

A research team announced yesterday that it has identified about 270 human proteins that the AIDS virus apparently needs to infect a person, instantly providing researchers with dozens of new strategies for blocking or aborting HIV infection.
The preliminary consideration is that, because HIV hijacks genetic code in the human cell for replication, they've got to make sure that if they find a way to mess w/proteins, these can't be proteins that human beings need to live. But if there's some way they can manipulate a protein that's not crucial, or perhaps in messing w/it, it would cause acceptable side effects, or if this gives them a clue to something else.... Well, if the damned virus can be stopped.... fuck!

Could you imagine it? "Well, this stops HIV replication, but... people are left with fewer eyelashes."
