Sep. 22nd, 2003 05:57 pmOk. Well, I don't know what I can add to Jaaladay'smemorializing of this past weekend, but I'll try. I was busy trying to quick clean when I called JD at her house to tell her I was about to leave. She told me the MN-crew was there, eating chili. Had to stop for a ton of Lake Louie, of course. Well, 3 growlers at any rate. Took me a total of 2 hours to get there--almost half the time it took the MN-crew to reach Jaala's. I was nervous as heck meeting them, and couldn't have placed coconuthead for the life of me when she opened the door, even though I've seen livsmama's picture on her site. And djymm was HUGE! Sort of strong silent type, and like coconuthead in that he'd come out every once in awhile with some lines that floored ya.
First trip was to Olbrich Gardens, where C ran happily, and A crawled. Liv showed a remarkable propensity for simply walking determinedly in a straight line (plus, she loved C's little pink car/pushcar. She'd get behind that thing and just wheel off every time, it seems, we were outside). I gave my philosophy that as a childless person, I think a kid is going.to.die at any given opportunity, about which we chuckled, then realized we were hanging around deadly nightshade. Then off to the Thai pavilion where everything said "Don't touch." But by then, it was time to head back to the Mike/Jaala man-see-on for dinner. Mike had cooked wonderful sushi, while the group also had some salad of mine (not too bad--not as great as the sushi, though). We played 2 rounds of the poetry game that night, but were so tired, and kept hoping against hope that the kids would fall asleep--they were still rocking at 11pm. Sad, silly adults.
Oh, and livsmama & jaaladay called kalimama to wish her luck in her show.
Next day we went to Monona Terrace, where I gave a little tour, then we headed towards the Farmer's Market, where the kiddles got to groove on chickens, while Liv kept grooving on C&A's double stroller (C was, overall, very patient w/this little invader who walked around w/abandon w/her toys and wanted to sit in her stroller). Then around the Farmer's Market in Madison, where cheese curds, donuts, and gladiolas were purchased, and almost all of these things eaten or at least munched on. The MN-crew got to here the Peruvians play a little, and the kids bobbled their heads. After much debate, we headed to eat on the near East side (and Liv, little scammer, picked up a book for free. We're walking along, and all the sudden, she turns in the opposite direction straight for a used bookstore. Djymm walks after her [he is her bodyguard, afterall], and next thing we know, he's walking out w/her, and she's got a book in her hands).
We ate at Ella's Deli. Coconuthead, upon hearing that we were going to a kosher place w/a carousel, was very pleased. She got a phosphate, and the "Kosherland" game after expressing a curious interest in it.
I do have to say that after we got back to JD's house, and our friend G and her son E stopped by, and a couple w/their son who were a week early for C's birthday, I was quite happy to get on my way. Kids everywhere! Although sitting out w/Jaala & livsmama was really nice. I'd felt much more relaxed that morning when I woke up, but just talking seemed a lot more natural.
Then to my house, where mda had cleaned some more (and more Lake Louie was purchased), and cow-petting ensued, with jujupees. The kids, and their daughter Z, seemed to get an enormous amount of pleasure out of my old footlocker trunk, and Mike told mda that our house was pretty childproof (then mda remembered to lock the door to the basement, and livsmama picked the scissors, but not the batteries, out of child's reach). Then we zoomed to jujupees & Chris's house, for dinner, more wine, and lots and lots of talk. I set to leave at 11, b/c I had to work the next day. livsmama implored me to just tell them what interests me in Taliesin. So, they came out after my tour was done, w/a diet pepsi (the right kind--in a 20 oz plastic bottle) in tow. Then they got to hear me sort of babble and say a few times, "did I say that already?" for over an hour. I have to say, if I weren't so exhausted, I would have been much more nervous. This was the longest time I'd been w/all of them through the whole weekend. They set off, and I drove by jujupees' house a little after 4 to see if I could send them off, but they were gone.
Next time, I'm getting waffles.
