Great Gildersleeve: "Bronco Wants a Wall" 06/11/52
Bronco is the husband of Gildersleeve's niece - the show was on long enough that she left, got married, and has twins by 1952. But she & Bronco move next to Gildy.

Through (surprise) mis-communication, Bronco first proposes, then backs out on, a wall between the two properties. Throckmorton (Gildersleeve) decides that getting chickens will help to make Bronco put up a wall. So, he goes out and buys a few crates of them.

Meanwhile, in our real world, I know someone who had to get permission from the town council to put up a chicken coop in his backyard. Obviously, bringing chickens home was pretty darned easy 50 years ago.
Rocky Jordan: "The Man from Damascus" 06/12/49
This always takes place in Egypt. Kind of cool for a safe, and delightful, taste of the exotic (and lots of descriptions of fights).

I like the fact that, at the end, the cop agrees to do something against the code, but what's right (he makes sure that one man gets $$ from a crook they've arrested).

I'm currently reading Michael Perry's Coop, in which he embarks and a free range chicken venture. Unfirtunately the coop construction lagged behind fowl acquisition by a couple months. Sounds like fun watching chickens be chickeny.
