I saw something about that. Maybe it was on your Facebook? If the Romans invented Jesus to cow people, they did a shitty job.

I got the link from facebook but didn't post it there (I'm more comfortable grumbling about politics & religion over here than, generally, over there).

Yeah, I was wondering how the Romans would have thought they did on the whole "inventing Jesus" thing, given.... Well, it proves that someone decided that Constantin wasn't "up to snuff" enough to get the secret memo that the Emperors usually received upon taking up the office, so he ended up believing in it.

I seem to remember reading in school how the creation of Jesus was believed to be an attempt to separate the Jews loyal to Rome from the rebellious Jews. This all happening around the time that Jerusalem fell in 70-something C.E. It was, however, assume that Jesus was a Jewish creation and not a Roman one.

Oh, every revolution really does plant the seeds of its own destruction. Damn it, I can’t help but relate everything back to Frank Herbert. Look what you’ve done to me.

It sounds like you know more than the person quoted in this article. But I am undoubtedly more comfortable with what you write.

As for Dune - well, Frank Herbert did write later that he wanted to create a Messiah. Which I've probably quoted to you before.
